Dragon Quest +also known as Dragon Quest RPG Maker Remake, is the best way to enjoy the first game of the Dragon Quest saga on a modern PC. This version of the game, which was developed using RPG Maker 2003, offers a game experience very close to that of the original, but with much nicer graphics, small quality improvements and an orchestrated soundtrack of outstanding quality.
No installation: just unzip and play
The only thing you have to do to start playing Dragon Quest + is to unzip the contents of the compressed file in a folder (Dragon Quest Remix Gold, by default) and run RPG_RT.exe. And that's it. The game requires no installation or additional downloads. You should have no problem playing the game on any PC running Windows XP SP3, Windows 7, Windows 10 or Windows 11. The game works perfectly even on Steam Deck.
A classic console RPG
Dragon Quest + remains faithful to the original in virtually all aspects. This means that it offers a gaming experience typical of the consoles of the time, with a level of difficulty that many players may consider high. Luckily, shortly after starting the game, when you're inside the castle, you'll find several guards who will give you very useful advice. If you still find the game too difficult, remember that this version has three different difficulty levels. The Easy Mode will allow you to earn twice as much gold and experience from fights, which will greatly reduce the difficulty.
What's new and different from the original
Among the new features that can be found in Dragon Quest + are new weapons, armor and items, as well as new monsters (almost all of them versions of old monsters). Of course, there is also a completely new soundtrack, masterfully performed by an orchestra. And, for the bravest players, there are several special dungeons and mini-dungeons where you can test your skills. These bonus dungeons are completely optional, but allow you to enjoy very special additional content.
